In recent years, more and more Canadians are retiring and leaving the labour market. In addition, with the elderly population making up a large part of the population, immigrants working in Canada play a very important role to fill in the labor shortage and immigration to Canada.

Canada is expected to welcome 431,000 immigrants in 2022 and is well underway to reach this target. By the end of July 2022, IRCC has issued more than 349,000 Canadian work visas, compared with about 112,000 Canadian work visas issued in the same period in 2021. This number of Canadian work visas means that every day more than 1,700 immigrants are coming to work in Canada.

Here are three industries with high demand for work in Canada.

Accommodation and restaurant services

Hospitality and restaurant services is by far the industry with the highest vacancies in all occupations. This means there are currently many opportunities to work in Canada at this time. The number of vacancies in the second quarter of 2022 was 149,600, increasing each quarter steadily. This explains why so many are immigrating to Canada under the skilled categories. The hospitality and restaurant industry is always on the list of occupation on demand in most provinces.

Below are the classification codes for those high in demand jobs that are used when applying for a Canadian work visa or permanent residence.

  Food counter attendants (NOC 6711.1).

Healthcare & Social assistance

làm việc tại Canada

In Q2 of 2022, Canada recorded 136,100 job vacancies for healthcare and public health services. This industry has the second-highest number of vacancies to work in Canada. Especially after the covid pandemic, the shortage of staff working in Canada in the healthcare sector has led to many hospitals even having to announce temporary cuts to some services, including services for emergency rooms, due to a lack of personnel.

For candidates who already have work experience related to healthcare, now is a good time to have a wide range of options to find suitable jobs. After applying for a work visa in Canada, you also have the opportunity to immigrate to Canada under the skilled categories. Healthcare jobs are currently on the priority list of applications in British Columbia and Saskatchewan provinces.

Here are some jobs that are in high demand in this industry:

Health care consultant (NOC 4165)

Registered nurses and registered psychiatric nurses (NOC 3012)

Specialist physicians (NOC 3111)

Pharmacists (Pharmacists – NOC 3131)

Dietitians and nutritionists

Scientific and technical services

Tech talent is in high demand in many provinces and an important contributor to the Canadian economy.

The number of vacancies in this industry reached 74,600 in the second quarter of 2022 and increased by 79.1% compared to the first quarter of 2020. In particular, immigrating to Canada under the skilled categories for the technology industry has high opportunities in major provinces. More than half (56.8%) of the opportunities to work in Canada in this industry come from 3 big cities including:

Toronto – a provincial capital of Ontario and is the most populous city in Canada. This city is well-known for music, theater, motion picture and television production.

Vancouver – the most populous city in British Columbia. This city is in the list of top 5 cities in the world for the quality of life. Another interesting fact of this city is that the climate does not experience extremely cold weather compared to the rest of Canada. The average temperature in summer is 18.2°C and in winter 2.7°C.

Montreal – the largest city of Quebec and the second most populous in Canada. Montreal is also known as a hometown of the largest French-speaking community in the world, along with Paris.
