Updates NOC 2021 system for Express Entry

On November 16, 2022, IRCC announced the transition to the new 2021 version of the National Occupation Classification (NOC) replacing the current 2016 NOC system (NOC 2016). The NOC system is used to classify the different skilled occupations when applying to work in Canada or when calculating the Express Entry score.

This change has a direct impact on the candidates who created the Express Entry Scoring profile and have not received the invitation to apply yet. These candidates will need to update their profiles under the new version.

The current NOC 2016 classifies work experience by NOC skill levels O, A, B, C, D. As of November 16, 2022, IRRC will begin to apply the new Training, Education, Experience and Responsibilities (TEER) system.

Why is it changing?

Canada is facing a big labour shortage problem. The foreign workers who want to work in Canada are an essential labour force that can solve the issue. The Canadian labour market needs talented individuals to grow and boost the country’s economy.

With the current positive change, it is hoped that people who work in Canada in high-demand occupations such as healthcare, construction or transportation will have more opportunities to settle in Canada.

Choose Canada as a destination to live and work

By the end of July 2022, Canada has issued 349,000 new work permits, of which 220,000 are open work permits, allowing workers to work anywhere in Canada in any occupation. Moreover, the Canadian Government just announced to welcome 465,000 new immigrants in 2023. The target will rise 485,000 new immigrants in 2024 and 500,000 new immigrants in 2025. These positive actions of the Government have brought many opportunities for people to work in Canada, and also opened new doors for people who would like to settle in Canada.

Here are some of the things for you to understand why Canada is a great place to live to work:

  •  Canada’s economy is one of the strongest economies in G7, the public finance is very clear and transparent.
  •  The bank system is very strong and efficient.
  •   The unemployment rate is also lower than other developed G7 countries.
  • The healthcare system is among the most modern in the world.
